I'm assuming it's larger than the tiny frames you see in the newspaper, but how much larger?
Original artwork for a comic strip in a newspaper is always no less than twice it's original size.As for a comic page same measurements apply however you must consider margins and text balloons as well as splash pages (action shot that fills a full page) and spreads that go over two pages in size. But the dimensions are 11" by 17" or larger. Usually an artist will design his final composition by drawing out thumbnails on a small piece of paper because the simple rule is that if it looks good small it will look good big, and besides you don't screw up at later stage in the drawing having done something wrong large.You plan out the colours and comp small.

what is a good digital camera to capture art that is too large for scanners?
I do pencil drawings on 11"x17" art board and I am having a hard time figuring out how I'm going to get them onto my computer, so your help would be very much appreciated.
I have used a 5meg point and shoot and now use a 10 meg dslr with a macro lens.The resolution you use depends on the purpose which you intend. For art programmes and digital art I use a fairly small file size as even on a high powered computer digital painting needs a lot of processing power.For sending over the internet small file sizes are also needed. Many zoom lenses work close up at the wide angle end, this creates a bit of distortion and it is better to shoot at the telephoto end of the zoom range.
