I don't think that a lack of degree could make you a second rate artist… however there is a lot of problem saolving elements that you learn from instructors..as well as the fact that most professors are artist themselves and so you are making valuable connections. Truth be told no matter how great your work is if you don't know the proper way to display art or know some people in the field you will get stuck. I'm not saying you will never succeed it may just take you a lot longer to get exposure. With school you have lots of oppurtunities to be in student shows which look good on you resume. If you can't go back to school right now I would recomend finding a place in town that maybe teaches art classes with local artist but not for degree credit. Alot of artist make money in this way so that they can afford their craft. Good Luck To you.

Will be in Downtown Las Vegas today meeting with citizens. I am beginning to establish more links to neighboring Governors to gain knowledge of how the sitting leaders are responding to Regional and local issues we share. Youtube is such a great resource. I also joined the Network Green Change which brings together Greens from both local and global perspectives. Received an email from CAC, the Contemporary Arts Center, they issue a call for artists to submit digital examples for their annual juried show.

I'm only familiar with this idea as being just that: an idea .There is no actual art created and if there is it is transitory, meaning it is not made to last very long .It could also be written about(or filmed) and the writing would be displayed instead of a painting or drawing .This is something that started and ended in the late sixties and to me was a very shallow and stupid art movement.

It seems like you're struggling with yourself…art degree education is always good; necessary, maybe not…if you're good on what you do…you don't need an art degree…it really depends on your art…don't start out your life with silly self doubts. You know what you are capable of…I remember what my art teacher told me once, "you can never make mistakes in art, only happy accidents or great surprises." Your young, you've been given a talent, use it wisely, use it to the best of your capabilities, and you know what, YOU'LL GO PLACES, GUARANTEED. Do you think, any famous artists out there doubted themselves, SURE, BUT you know what, they still went for it anyway…life's too short…i know…go for it.
