I have 4 cheapo clamp on lamps that work fine. I want to put CFLs in them but don't know which ones to buy. I think 23w is fine but which type? I'm doing artwork and I want to sort of simulate daylight. I see bulbs that say daylight, sunlight, full spectrum, floodlights, I'm so confused!
depends how bright you want it and if color temperature matters to you.
If color temperature is most important to you, go for the ones that say they are daylight balanced or white or whatever.
Then get whatever brightness you need. The normal 100W equivalents (I think that's usually around the 23w you quoted) are usually good for most things.
Floodlights are not like normal incandesents. "Floodlight" means that they are the kind of bulbs that directional - they have a reflector like a flashlight. However, if you need floodlights, I'm not sure if it is possible to get daylight balanced versions, so in that case, it would probably be better to get the supposedly white balanced bulbs and use something else to control the light.

On a home improvement show, I saw them mount goose neck desk lamps above large framed art...?
How would the base of the lamp be attached safely and securely to the wall above the artwork? I already have the desk lamps!
I guess you could drill holes through the base of the lamp, being careful not to drill through any wiring, and then fasten it to the wall like you would anything else. Or you could just buy picture lamps which would be simpler.
I can't imagine a r40 type fitting into that lamp. Look for a 25W R16. Same light output and within the dimensions you are looking for.
